Progress on DS2’s data space bridging solution
From 28-30 January, Athens was the venue for the third Plenary Meeting of the DS2 project, a key event that brought together all consortium partners to present the progress made in recent months and to outline the roadmap for the next steps.
Organised by ATC, this meeting brought together industry experts, key stakeholders, technical and research partners, as well as representatives from various use cases. The main objective was to assess the progress of the project, reflect on the crucial role of data spaces in today’s digital economy and define how DS2 will address existing challenges to generate added value for all participants.

The following is a summary of the three days of the meeting and what we worked on.
Summary of the Meeting
Day 1: DS2 Progress at a glance
The first day of the plenary began with a comprehensive review of the overall status of the DS2 project, highlighting significant progress and challenges encountered since its inception one year ago. The work package leaders presented the progress made in each area, along with the latest updates and results in terms of dissemination, communication and exploitation of the project. The afternoon session included live demonstrations of the DS2 modules, followed by short discussions, presentations of the IDT connector and DS2, and an explanation of the GitHub practices used in the project.
Day 2: Focus on Use Cases
The second day was dedicated to DS2 use cases, starting with two keynote presentations on precision farming and its role in the modernisation of the agri-food sector. Efthimis Papadopoulos, business consultant at KRONOS S.A. Canning Fruit Industry, and Thomas Thomaidis, partner and co-founder of Pangaea R&D IKE, gave these talks.
The afternoon session delved into the critical aspects of the use cases (precision farming, smart cities and the Green Deal), highlighting the significant progress made by the partners. In addition, collaborative workshops focused on the planning of data products and services, as well as on the specific challenges of each use case. The day concluded with an open discussion on end-to-end connectivity (E2E), focusing on Eclipse connector extensions and identified technical challenges.
Day 3: To Infinity and Beyond
The final day of the plenary focused on the future of DS2, with a segment dedicated to discussing potential developments in the project. Participants emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between stakeholders and further work on the implementation of DS2 modules and the development of use cases. This forward-looking approach allowed participants to visualise how the project can continue to progress towards its medium and long-term goals.
Participation by Minsait and Onesait Platform
Minsait is participating in the DS2 project using the Onesait Platform to develop software modules that will be available to DS2 users. Specifically, Minsait is developing four modules within the consortium:
- Policy Agreement and Enforcement Module: This module is part of the core modules used in DS2. It is responsible for managing and enforcing the policies defined for data access and use through the DS2 data connector.
- Model Development Toolkit Module: This module provides tools to implement the entire MLOps cycle, facilitating the development and deployment of data models.
- Data Inspector Module: This module provides a tool to define rules that, based on the analysis of the exchanged data, allow the generation of alerts. This helps DS2 Connector users to detect anomalous data and patterns..
- Data Marketplace Module: With this module, DS2 users can create data offers and algorithms related to that data, thus fostering data sharing and data economics.
Conclusions and Next Steps
The DS2 plenary session in Athens not only served to review the progress of the project, but also to foster collaboration, strategic thinking and effective planning. Attendees left with a clearer understanding of how to proceed with their respective tasks, ensuring that DS2 continues to move forward in a robust and successful manner. This meeting reinforced the importance of data spaces in the digital economy and underlined the commitment of all partners to overcome challenges and maximise the value generated by the project.

All in all, the third DS2 plenary in Athens was a key milestone in the project’s trajectory, consolidating the efforts of all partners and laying the foundations for a promising future in the field of data spaces.
